Velma Bernice Polston, 87, died 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Sprenger Health, Mishawaka. She was born March 27, 1934, in Wakarusa to Vernon & Violet (Woolett) Schalliol. On October 10, 1953, she married Billy Von Polston and he passed in 2010 after 56 years of marriage. Surviving are 4 children, David (Joyce) Polston, Elkhart, Linda (Tony Brown) Constable, Edwardsburg, Michigan, Mark (Lisa Holloman) Polston, Elkhart, Brian (Katie) Polston, Osceola, 14 grandchildren, Cody (Shannon) Constable, Derek (Rachel) Polston, Doug (Cayla) Polston, Matthew (Kara) Polston, Joshua Polston, Sarah Owen, Beth (Brad) Stacy, Hannah (Rashid Fagan) Polston, Avery McAbee, Easton McAbee, Courtney (Dillion) Papa, Justin Holloman, Lindsay Holloman, Bryce Holloman, 21 great-grandchildren, siblings, Kenneth (Melba) Hammon, Argos, Phyllis Shenneman, Florida, Eunice Moore, Indiana and 3 half-siblings, Jodie, Betsy & Johnny. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband and brother, Cliff Schalliol. Velma was a homemaker, bookkeeper, and an Avon representative for 30 years. She was a devout Christian that studied the Bible diligently. “Mom loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren beyond measure. Her greatest delight was a visit from her family. Holiday dinners were a favorite time with all gathered at the house playing card games and kids running everywhere. She loved working in her flowers beds, making everything clean and welcoming.” Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. all on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa (masks optional). Pastor Ed Fisher will officiate. Burial will follow at Olive (West) Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Faith Mission, Elkhart.
