Rosalia Philomena Mandis, 98, Elkhart, is now dancing in the sky and singing in the angels choir. She died 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020 in Elkhart. Rosalia was born Feb. 27, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, to Otto and Margaret (Fleming) Francesconi. On Nov. 1, 1947, she married John Mandis Sr. and he died May 7, 1998. Surviving are 2 children, Lieutenant Colonel George P. Mandis, U.S. Marine Corps, (Ret.) (Bonnie Lane) of Fredericksburg, Virginia & Carol Sue Beadle, Elkhart, grandsons, John Nicholas Mandis, Fredericksburg, Virginia & James Ray (Lisa) Beadle III, Elkhart, great-grandchildren, Cole Beadle & Corey Beadle, both of Elkhart. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, John Sr., son, John Mandis Jr., sister, Cecelia Eppers and a brother, Otto L. Francesconi. Rosalia was a 1940 graduate of Evanston Township High School, Evanston, Illinois. She retired from Selmer Corporation, Elkhart, where she worked as an executive assistant; Yellow Creek Packing Company (Plumrose), Elkhart, executive assistant; Elkhart License Bureau as an operations manager. As a member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Elkhart, Rosalia served in the Rosary Society. She enjoyed her family, crocheting, knitting and had a great sense of humor. Rosalia enjoyed bird watching, gardening, traveling, playing golf, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, loved to dance and had a GREAT zest for life. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with the funeral service following at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart, Indiana. Rev. Craig Borchard will officiate, and burial will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Elkhart or Cancer Resources for Elkhart County.
