NEW PARIS – Norma Wysong, 92, died at 4:08 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at her residence. She was born January 2, 1928, in New Paris, to Ezra and Florence (Koos) Hoover. She married Don Wysong on June 9, 1951, in New Paris. Surviving are her sons, Van (Peggy) Wysong, Goshen, John (Dawn) Wysong, Fremont, IN; daughter Lyn (Johnny) Speight, Madisonville, KY; sister-in-law Birthe (Don) Hoover of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Jenna (Michael) Filbrun, Gavin Speight, Ali Wysong, Erin (Ishmal) Baker, and Michael Wysong; and one great-grandchild, Clarity Baker. Preceding her in death are her parents, four sisters, Gladys (Jerry) Coble, Doris (Marius) Bollero, Helen (William) Hollar, and Carol (Robert) Greeson; one brother, Donald Hoover; and one great-grandson, Canaan Baker. Norma received her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Art Education and Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ball State University and was a graduate of New Paris High School. She was Art Supervisor at New Castle before she moved back to the area and taught art at Bristol Jr. High, New Paris K-12, Fairfield Jr/Sr High School, and Goshen High School. Upon retirement from teaching, she operated her own pottery business (Turkey Creek Pottery) and worked as a potter for Dick Lehman Pottery in Goshen. Norma was a life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church in New Paris, where she served as a Jr/Sr High Sunday School teacher, sang in the church choir, chaired several church committees, and led a traveling youth choir. Norma was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Delphians Literary Club. She served as chair of the Habitat for Humanity Selection Committee and headed up several volunteer service activities at Chamberlain Elementary School in Goshen where husband, Don, was principal for many years. Don and Norma also served as foster parents. A private burial will take place for immediate family at New Paris Cemetery.
