Max H. Truex

October 19, 1928 - April 20, 2020

On April 20, 2020, Max Harold Truex, Wakarusa, was called home where he joined other family members in their heavenly home. Max was born to Jesse and Helen (Stine) Truex on October 19, 1928. They, along with siblings, Robert Truex and Marie Brown, are reunited again. On May 7, 1949, Max married Mary Ellen Middaugh in Nappanee and they made their home in Wakarusa. The couple have three sons, Mark, Matt, both of Wakarusa and Michael residing in Goshen. Max worked for 25 years at Smith Chevrolet as a mechanic and service manager. He often brought new Chevy’s home so his boys could look them over and take a ride in the newest models. Max was a great boy dad and shared his love for cars with them. He was part owner of the Shell Service Station on the corner of SR 19 and CR 40 with Dallas Treesh for a number of years. His last position was to work as a maintenance man for the Town of Wakarusa. In all his positions, Max wore a smile that everyone knew and loved to see. In addition, he drove for parts when needed for Lycro Products where his son, Matt worked. In retirement, Max often rode his bicycle uptown to have coffee at Cook’s with “the boys”. He enjoyed being friends with everyone. Max leaves behind a faithful wife, Mary, their sons and families. Mary taught her family the power of prayer. She prayed many years for his salvation, knowing it was the most important decision a person could make. Max made the decision during meetings at Bible Baptist Church with the Hal Webb Evangelistic Team. Max was a treasure to his family and leaves them to smile with good memories of a life well-lived. Family members include, Mark & Elaine Truex, Michan and Ryan Eby, Carissa and Brent Renner, Melaine and Jason Gough, Alysha and Casey Yerger, Matt Truex, Mike and Rhonda Truex, Melissa and Nate Bontrager, April and Phil Lantz and Brandon Truex. He dearly loved his great-grandchildren, Laura, Heather, Titus Eby, Mark and Chad Renner, Grayson and Adeline Yerger and Evelyn Gough, Sabrina, Gabe, Connor and Liam Bontrager and Kaylee and Aren Lantz. A private family service will be held at South Union Cemetery, where they will lay his physical body to rest. Pastor David Harper will officiate. The family invites you to send a card with a memory of Max in place of a visitation during the time of Shelter in Place. We rejoice that Max in now Sheltered in Place at his forever home, safe in His Father’s care.
