He remained there 2 years, teaching mechanical repair and helping with livestock. Upon his return to the US, he worked in the budding RV industry, eventually joining General Telephone (Verizon) as a technician from which he retired after 25+ years. John was a member of Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren, where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, fixing things, wintering in Sebring, Florida and visiting family and friends. He was the original “do-it-yourselfer” and was always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed help. He possessed many skills, including building his own home and repairing motors, machinery, and electronics. He was a learner, always eager to learn something new, and was a teacher/mentor type of person who loved to share his knowledge with others. He was adventurous, good-natured, patient and kind with a good sense of humor. He openly shared his life-long faith even throughout his advanced years.
