John Morehouse Jr.

May 25, 1923 - February 22, 2022

John Morehouse Jr., 98, Goshen, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen, Indiana. He was born May 25, 1923, in Milford, to Samuel Guy & Lydia Florence (Rowdabaugh) Morehouse. On May 6, 1956, he married Marian Grace (Loucks) Morehouse. Surviving are his daughters, Beth Stouder, Oxford, Florida; Kay (Rob) Atwell, Fruitland Park, Florida; five grandchildren – Cari (Jon) Coords, Somerville, New Jersey; Jaime (Paul) Alper, Riverview, Florida; Taylor (fiancé Tiffany Fletcher) Stouder, Leesburg, Florida; Jill (Chris) Evans, St. Cloud, Florida; Brandon Atwell, Lady Lake, Florida; 10 great-grandchildren – Sadie, Malachi, Laine, Arianna, Ayanna & Anslee Coords; Eden & Avery Alper; Addilyn & Emmy Evans; and a brother, Eldon Morehouse, Muncie, Indiana. Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Marian; sisters Elsie Morehouse, Lucille Evans, Louise Meek; brothers, Glen, Herbert, Harold, Everett, Dale, Nelson & Dean Morehouse. John served his country during WW2 with CPS in Oregon, Michigan and New Jersey. After the war, he served as “sea-going cowboy” with Heifer International and the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, sailing to China to deliver livestock and farming equipment. He remained there 2 years, teaching mechanical repair and helping with livestock. Upon his return to the US, he worked in the budding RV industry, eventually joining General Telephone (Verizon) as a technician from which he retired after 25+ years. John was a member of Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren, where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, fixing things, wintering in Sebring, Florida and visiting family and friends. He was the original “do-it-yourselfer” and was always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed help. He possessed many skills, including building his own home and repairing motors, machinery, and electronics. He was a learner, always eager to learn something new, and was a teacher/mentor type of person who loved to share his knowledge with others. He was adventurous, good-natured, patient and kind with a good sense of humor. He openly shared his life-long faith even throughout his advanced years. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022, and 1 prior to the 10 a.m. service on Saturday, March 12, 2022, all at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Heifer International at www.heifer.org. Online condolences may be sent at www.rrefh.com
